Here are two of my favorite alternatives to Shutterstock:

A. Unsplash

Originally launched by Crew as a side project (you can read the interesting story on their blog), Unsplash’s idea is simple: 10 new photos every 10 days.

All photos are high-res and free to download and use for both Editorial & Commercial purposes. And they have this hispter-y side that make them nice to use.

Price: Free

B. Lefty

Lefty allows to find and buy photos from Instagram.

Their search engine includes visual recognition technology which makes it easy to uncover high-quality photos from Instagram.

Here again the idea is simple: once you find a photo you like, you connect your Instagram account and contact the owner to ask the permission to use their photo. You can name the price you’re ready to pay for it – and the owner can keep the money or give it to a charity.

Price: 2 photo requests for free per month – then $9.90/month for up to 100 requests.
